Facts on Jim Calhoun's Cancer Sat, 31 May 2008 00:00:00 -0400 •According to the medical reports, coach Jim Calhoun came to the UConn Health Center on April 24 with an enlarging mass in his right upper neck near the jaw line. In 2007 he had a squamous cell cancer of the skin removed from his right cheek, near the location of this neck mass. A fine needle aspiration biopsy of the mass was performed at the time of the initial visit. The biopsy showed squamous cell cancer. Office examination of the head and neck, as well as subsequent PET/CT scanning of the entire body, revealed no other areas of concern. It is therefore most likely that the mass in the neck was related to his prior skin cancer. |
